Excursion:
Vienna Airport, Schwechat
|
Mr. Habeler works for Austro Control. The Flight Weather Service is located
at Vienna Airport.First, we looked at various weather images and satellite
pictures on the computer. When the satellite picture was rather dark, it
meant warmth. When it was lighter, it meant cold. We also learnt some English
words for weather conditions: rain, hail, thunderstorm...The time of the
day was different, because people there work with all over the world. Afterwards,
we went up on the roof. We watched many planes taking off and landing. We
also saw the tower. There sit the air traffic controllers, who tell the
pilots , whether they can take off or land. The man explained to us that
there are two kinds of flights:Flying by instruments (only instruments are
used) Flying by sight (the pilot sees everything in front of him).We like
the excursion very much and were really excited about it.

Visit on Vienna Airport Schwechat As we did not know very much, we were
explained everything. We were shown on the radar how highs and lows develop.
The high turns clockwise, the low counter-clockwise. On another radar
we could see rainfall. People can call by telephone and find out about
the weather for the following days. Afterwards, we went up on the roof
to watch airplanes. On one monitor, we could see lightning: whenever there
was a lightning somewhere there was a blinking light on the screen. I
do not remember anything else, but I liked it very much and I made some
valuable experiences.
