Telephoning is becoming more and more important; everyone wants to become accessible everywhere and at all times, and that of course with a cordless. In the last 2 years the cellular market has boomed. Last years Christmas business brought the cellular sales to about the million - threshold. Besides A1 and max.mobil "ONE" appeared in autumn '97. The planned system, which should be complete in 2000 includes 16000 base stations, but public resistance is at the same time increasing in the form of ca. 90 citizen initiatives and individual activists. Above all the "Platform GSM- Initiative" which was founded at the end of 1997 warns of an impending contamination by unhealthy electromagnetic waves.
The first negative experiences with "electrosmog" occurred in the sixties in the Bavarian "Schaittsee" on a form that was situated between 2 transmitter pales the cows eyes were frequently filled with noticeable tears, calves were stillborn or had birth defects, and the chickens regularly lost their balance and could not stand. It was hypothesised that "electrosmog" was the cause, so the animals were transported to another farm, where the symptoms rapidly disappeared. In 1976 scientists began experiments on animals, which demonstrated that "electrosmog" caused genetic changes. They proved that specific microwave frequencies damaged chromosomes and precipitated gene mutations, particularly susceptible are the eyes, ovaries and testis.
For convenient communication cellular phones naturally offer advantages in private and business life. Electromagnetic measurements, however attest to the fact that particular frequencies interfere with one another, a mobile phone can disturb the radio in a plane or even hinder a pacemakers functioning, which means cellphones are forbidden in aeroplanes and hospitals. For these reasons there is now a law that governs the compatibility of electromagnetic equipment, although such laws are often disregarded.
The I&M system requires high frequency signals in a digital version for the international transfer of data. Our sensitive organism is not used to these signals and reacts accordingly with irritation. The suspicion that symptoms such as headaches, sleeping disorders and even cancer can be attributed at least in part by "electrosmog" is confirmed by observations on the one hand there are thermal effects: tissue which contains water absorbs the high frequency energy, the cellsheat, and an artificial fever occurs. The effects relate to our hormone melatonin, which is produced at night. Morning sunlight stops this production. But also electromagnetic fields can hinder this activity and upset our hormonal balance, therefore it is recommended to keep ones sleep as little disturbed as possible, but one can not turn off a power-line or a GSM-transmitter. Their radiation is mostly beneath the threshold, but scientists have discovered that a negligible radioactive energy over a large period is more damaging as strong radiation for a brief time.
