Web- Site Development

The discussion focused on the changes that should occur in the organization of the pupils' Bulletin Board in order to be more attractive and user - friendly. The reason is that pupils so far had a few contribution in the Bulletin Board area. What has been said is that it is an imperative need to invite pupils to communicate, exchange views and most importantly collaborate through this environment. The project is at the point where students should interpretate and further discuss the results, and in this process a collaboration at international level through the Bulletin Board should be established.

Dagmar Schaeffer proposed the following structure: to have one open space discussion forum, where all pupils contribute their ideas and indicate to whom they address their questions (e.g. to Germans, Austrians, etc.). During the discussion, comments have been expressed by the partners. More specifically, they discussed the pros and cons of this solution. The advantage is actually that pupils don't spend a lot of time to enter the space. So, it will be probably quite convenient for them during the school break to go to the computer lab and send their contribution. The disadvantage is scrolling. Another disadvantage is the fact that it appears to be very chaotic, since all the questions for the four topics will be all together. Ulrike Urban referred to this solution as easy and very friendly to the pupils.

Vassiliki Kollia proposed to divide the existing Bulletin Board in four smaller boards, one for each topic. In each subspace, the pupils will address and answer the questions that are related to that particular topic. The pupils should go there to check for new questions as regards this particular topic as well as in order to submit their answers and their own questions. The advantages and disadvantages of this solution have been further discussed. An important advantage, as the bibliography also suggests, is the fact that it is very structured and enables students to easily detect the topic that is of interest to them or it is addressed to them. The disadvantage is that the students should go one more layer down in order to enter the area they wish to work, and this is translated to more time.

It has been decided that Vassiliki Kollia and Dagmar Schaeffer together with Epinoia will work further on the second solution in order to check if it is feasible and if can be designed in way that is less time-consuming. The new version of the Bulletin Boards should be ready by 15th December 2000.

As regards the new material to be introduced in the web-site, it has been suggested to add Links in the "Link area", Lesson plans in the "Research area", and fotos of the pupils. Heinz Wagner also suggested to add an activity/game. In this game the pupils will have to answer some questions that they will be one way or another related to the data collected from the interviews. For each correct answer, they will gain something (e.g. a blouse from Kurier etc).

Problems have been also mentioned as regards downloading of the Evaluation Questionnaires.
