The "Sweet Water" TV spots are based on the content of the "Sweet Water" tale, which is the story of a loveable little comic figure, depending extremely on clean (sweet) water and originating from Sweet Water Land.

The tale tells the adventures of this little figure, who, whilst traveling through Europe, is confronted with actual problems of water quality and quantity, pollution of drinking and bathing water. In the "Sweet Water" tale the figure is equipped with a bottle "Miracle Clean Water" from home, which helps him to overcome various problems in his need for precious sweet water and has even healing power.

Project "Sweet Water" envisages, based on the above tale, the production of TV spots of short duration (1 min) containing adventures of the "Sweet Water" figure in Greece with pedagogic background, plus one "Sweet Water" introduction pilot spot.

Through the identification of the loveable comic figure, the observer will develop sensitivity for the importance of water, it's presence everywhere, its preciousness and immense value for the planet earth and all life forms therein. The "Sweet Water" tale is mainly targets the young population but is also appropriate for the broad public and all citizens in general.

Thus the "Sweet Water" project aims at a long term effect on the change of consciousness and behaviour towards water and sustainable management of water resources by today's young generation, the new generation of tomorrow.

"Sweet Water" 's concept refrains from "don'ts" in education and prefers a top-down approach, wherein a return and emotional relation to nature is the starting point for necessary awareness and change in behavior towards our environment, leading to development of strategies for a sustainable management of natural resources.

Partnership and Methodology

The "Sweet Water" Consortium covers specialist expertise for all stages of development of the project. A combination of educational institutes, environmental experts, TV stations and producers, ensures a horizontal pedagogic approach during development and implementation of production and dissemination of the TV spots.
The first series of "Sweet Water" TV spots, produced within the project "Sweet Water", will be adapted to Greek conditions, but will be also highly suitable for broadcasting in other European countries, due to their limited use of language and the all over Europe presence of similar water quality and quantity problems.
The content will be developed by educational and environmental experts in cooperation with the Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation and the Mostra organization, Belgium. The production will be implemented by the Cartoon Studio JOB, Germany, who holds the original "Sweet Water" tale with support and supply of material from Mostra. First broadcasting will take place in Greece and be initiated from the beginning of 2004.
In regard to the upcoming Olympic Games in Athens 2004, an increased market value for the "Sweet Water" TV spots may be expected, even more as these are of limited duration and easily to be integrated into TV programs of other countries. The content -Sustainable water management- is an extremely actual theme with great interest for all European countries on one hand, demonstrating and mirroring Greek country and environment on the other.
Long term aims of the "Sweet Water" movement will be continuing adoption of the "Sweet Water" scheme from other European countries/TV channels, with the production of appropriate mini stories of the "Sweet Water" figure and its adventures in another European country. These newly developed stories, which in parallel are of pan European (and world wide) interest and can be broadcast in exchange, will raise the trans-border awareness for common environmental issues- as water resources- and will help to create a European Dimension in environmental protection policy. Thus the 'Sweet Water" project may mainstream into an European "Sweet Water" movement.
