Needs
Analysis
The Needs Analysis conducted within the framework of Athina demonstrated
the wide diversity of the target group. Students of modern greek have some
things in common. Nonetheless, the differences are numerous.
Pedagogical
Objectives
The material
was produced in accordance with the results of the Needs Analysis conducted.
Technological
Objectives
The needs
analysis demonstrated, that the flexibility of Open Distance Learning should
be an integral part of Athina.

The
list of the Technological Objectives was based
on the particular aspects of the Needs Analysis relating to a possible
role for technology:
-
The multimedia content should include
a lot of dialogues and rely heavily on speech interaction. The communicative
approach, emphasizing role play and real life situations should not limit
itself to the conventional material. By introducing specific types of
excercises (e.g. record and playback) complementary to the more traditional
ones (multiple choice etc.), the spectrum of possible interactions
could be tremendously enhanced.
-
Self-assesment is crucial. Adults can
easily adopt effective learning strategies, and since the vast majority
of the target group are adult learners, they should be provided with tools
that would allow them to self-assess themselves in order to adopt the appropriate
strategies.
-
The internet should be used as a platform
for continous communication, collaboration and updating of the material.
Because of the sporadic nature of the demand for modern Greek, students
should be given maximum flexibility.
